Inside the inaugural Le Mans Classic Legend with Team Langoustine

Classic Racing

This was the first edition of the newly revamped Le Mans Classic Legend, marking the start of its new annual format. Official attendance was 159,853 spectators, making for a more relaxed atmosphere around much of the circuit while still attracting a large crowd.

Friday and Saturday morning were devoted to practice and qualifying before racing got underway on Saturday afternoon. The action continued through the night and into Sunday afternoon.  While I have seen some comments online suggesting there was less track action than at previous Le Mans Classics, there was certainly plenty to keep me entertained throughout the weekend.

My personal highlights were the spectacular Group C cars and Grid 10, featuring LMP1 and LMP2 machinery from 2006 to 2015 – the era when I first started attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The LMC Drivers club held their informal ‘Friday Night Meet’ on the Friday evening in the Marquee with members sharing a meal, drinks and a catch up with members old and new.

Team Langoustine were delighted to welcome guests from 1st Tickets and PistonHeads to their Premier Campsite at Tertre Rouge during the Le Mans Classic. Mark said, “It was a pleasure to host fellow motorsport enthusiasts, with the campsite providing a relaxed base to enjoy the racing, great food and the unique atmosphere that makes Le Mans so special”.

With my Beermountain hat on, I spent some time admiring the incredible vehicles around the site and couldn't resist presenting one of them with the Beermountain Special Award. This beautifully restored bus stood out from the crowd. Its owner told me it had taken six years to complete the restoration, and it was easily the finest example I'd ever seen. In a close second place was a 1961 Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite.

Seconds please!

Once again, the kitchen team did a fantastic job, serving the same popular menu that proved such a hit during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. My personal favourite was Saturday night's Nepalese Tikka Curry.

More often than not, I found myself first in the breakfast queue each morning, but don't worry if you're not an early riser – breakfast was served until 10am.

My thanks go to everyone in the Team Langoustine kitchen for producing such generous, delicious meals and keeping everything running smoothly throughout the event. Alongside the main meals there was also a great selection of lunches and late-night snacks to keep everyone fuelled between races as well as the football.

Prawns on film

This year the cameras were rolling throughout both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Le Mans Classic, capturing the atmosphere, the racing and, of course, the people who make these events so special.

Filming for Team Langoustine at the Le Mans Classic were Carla and Reece from cars, clothing and coffee lifestyle brand Race & Taylor. The owners of the customised Cayenne you may have seen (as well as a rather tasty G-series 911) had a great time with guests and crew alike in between shooting at the circuit and its paddocks which were a cornucopia of iconic racing cars that you could see up close.

We also got a nice mention from the Radio Le Mans team on the Peter Auto live YouTube stream that you can watch here.

The content creators are currently editing the first promotional videos from all the footage, so keep an eye on our website and social media channels. You never know, you might just see yourself in one of them.

Looking ahead to 2027

Whether you were there for the Group C monsters, the modern Le Mans prototypes or simply to soak up the unique atmosphere that only Le Mans can provide, the inaugural Le Mans Classic Legend offered another memorable weekend at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

With the next edition already confirmed for 1–4 July 2027, it won't be long before the countdown begins again. This will be the inaugural edition of Le Mans Classic Heritage. It will transport spectators back to the golden age of endurance in a tribute to the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1923 to 1975.
