If you’ve stayed at the Team Langoustine Premier campsite in the last couple of years or stopped by to say hello to us at one of the Sunday Scramble events at Bicester Motion, you will no doubt have been up-close with this car.

The 2011 Team Langoustine Maserati Grand Tour “Sand Job” Gran Cabrio as originally driven by James May across Mauritania in The Grand Tour: Sand Job - first aired 16 February 2024. Powered by a F136 4.7 naturally aspirated V8 mated to a ZF 6-speed auto, this Maserati Gran Cabrio was customised for The Grand Tour by Rally Raid UK of Huddersfield making the car truly Dakar Rally capable.

James May claimed the car cost £26,000 on the show. However, it is rumoured the TV producers spent up to £50,000 on the customisation work alone.

After a DriveTribe video highlighting some potentially serious problems after returning from Mauritania, it was auctioned on Ebay and thankfully rescued by Team Langoustine in December 2024. Repairs and some work to make it UK road legal by D&S Hamilton in Reading followed.

The car is now one of the mascots of Team Langoustine alongside ‘Steve McKingPrawn’ and has travelled with us to the Circuit de la Sarthe debuting in 2025.
